Our project reaches an important milestone!
On the morning of August 24, the Clean Shores, Great Lakes team visited two sites simultaneously. Conducting clean-ups at Mwigobelo Beach and Nyarusurya in district of Musoma on the shores of Lake Victoria, our team were joined by 170 and 37 volunteers, respectively. They collected litter in the form of plastic bags, plastic bottles and food wrappers, as well abandoned fishing gear, cardboard and glass. They were finished within a couple of hours with a few thousand items of trash.
So far so usual, but these two sites were the 49th and 50th clean-ups of our project. A tremendous milestone in our project and ongoing effort to clean-up the African Great Lakes.
Volunteers at Mwigobelo Beach
Volunteers at Nyarusurya
In these 50 clean-ups we have collected more than 350000 items of litter weighing over 20000 kg, but we could not have done this without each of the 4770 volunteers that have helped us along the way.
A huge thank you to everyone involved and we still have more to come from in our second clean-up campaign!
